March 31, 2020: Niantic, the San Francisco-based company best known for developing incredibly popular augmented reality (AR) games such as Pokemon Go, have announced their acquisition of a leading spatial mapping company, 6d.ai . The purpose of the acquisition for Niantic is to more quickly and efficiently build a 3D map of the world which will allow them to continue to develop more intricate AR games.
Neither company commented on the purchase price.
Niantic was represented by the legal team at Fenwick & West LLP. “Fenwick” is a Silicon Valley technology law firm with six offices globally. Several lawyers at Fenwick were involved in the deal:
